Rules

RULES OF THE II INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION "CITY OF VIGO". (ALICIA DE LARROCHA EDITION)

1. The Classical Music Association of Galicia (AMCG) organizes the II International Piano Competition "Cidade de Vigo", which will be held in the "Martín Códax" hall of the Superior Music Conservatory of Vigo (Calle Manuel Olivié, 23), and in the Municipal hall of Vigo (Praza do rei, 1) from March 24th till March 28th, 2018.

2. The contestants must be present at the presentation and at the draw, which will be public. In case you can not appear at the draw or can not play on the 24th of march, 2018, you must send to our organization a sworn statement or proof explaining the reasons, and our organization will decide if that is possible.

The order of performance of the contestants will be maintained in subsequent rounds. The contest calendar will be as following:

March 23th at 19:30: Opening ceremony and opening concert of the contest.

March 24th at 9:00 am: Reception of participants and raffle. March 24th at 10.00: First round.
March 25th at 10.00 am: First round.

March 26th at 10.00 am: First round March 27th at 10.00: Semifinal

March 28th at 17:00: Final
March 28th at 21:00: Award ceremony and performance of the winners
From 29th to March 31 (optional): Masterclasses with the members of the jury
April 1st: Concert with all members of the jury

3. Pianists of any nationality, WITHOUT AGE LIMIT, can participate in the competition. The organization can accept the number of contestants that considers, once that all the inscriptions are received, even if is higuer than number of participants which was planned at first.

4. The registration period will end on March 5th, 2018. Along with the required information, participants must do the payment (100 euros), to confirm their registration. Registered participants must make a transfer to the following account number, specifying their names together to the transfer:

5. To register, it is only necessary to fill in the formulary through our web page: www.vigopianocompetition.com and fill in the information required on it. In case that any participant already registered decides not to come finally, the amount already trasfered will be non-refundable

6. The jury will be 6 members of renowned trajectory: Pablo Galdo (Spain), Tamás Vásáry (Hungary), Paul Badura-Skoda (Austria), Cyprien Katsaris (Cyprus-France), Jorge Luis Prats(Cuba), András Kemenes (Hungary), except if anyone of them for a strong reason can not attend finally. Their decisions will be published on the web sitewww.vigopianocompetition.com. The Jury is not obliged to award all the prizes if they consider so. Their decisions will be unappealable. The prizes are subject to the corresponding retentions according to the current law.

7. The organization will be allowed to record and broadcast live all the rounds of the contestants, and will have all the the rights over those recordings.

8. In case of translation mistake on the rules of competition, the Spanish translation will be considered as the official one.

9. The Organizing Committee will solve all those situations not written down at the general rules.

10. The registration implies the total acceptance of the rules of the Competition.

11) The Competition will have First round, Semifinal and Final.

12) The Law 15/1999 on the Protection of Personal data (LOPD). The personal data (including photographs, identity documents and images) that the contestants will submit, will be incorporated into a file owned by the

Association of classical music of Galicia. According to the LOPD, the rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition can be made by any participant, writing an e mail to the Association of classical music of Galicia: amcg@musicaclasicagalicia.com or toasociacionmusicaclasica@gmail.com

13) The interpretation of own compositions will not be allowed/ The performance of the same piece will not be allowed during the different rounds of the competition/ It will not be allowed to play individual movements of an entire piece/ All the pieces will be performed by memory, except the piece of Galician composer Juan Durán, which can also be performed with the score.

14) During competition, it will be forbidden to talk with the member of the jury, which could be a reason to be dequalified

15) Underage contestants must send a signed and scanned authorization from the parents or legal guardian, assuming any responsability of their participation in it.

16) Practice rooms will be available for the study of participants only from march 24th. The pianos will be FREE OF CHARGE during all the rounds of the contest and subsequent masterclass.

17) We have a hotel that will make a special price for the participants enrolled in our competition 35 euros per person in single room, and 27 euro per person in a double room shared with another participant, (54 euro the total prize of double room), both with breakfast included. Those who are interested, should contact as via e mail, and we will send you the the contact of that hotel.

18) To get to Vigo, there are 4 international airports nearby: Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Porto and Coruña. There is another possibility to arrive here, first travelling from Madrid or Barcelona and later on coming to one of the airports listed above (It takes 50 minutes)

19) The official piano of the contest will be a Shigeru Kawai grand piano.

  • First round: Performance of a maximum duration of 10 minutes, of one or several works of free choice.

  • Semifinal: (maximum 20 participants): Performance of a maximum duration of 20 minutes, of one or several works of free choice.

  • Final: (5 participants). Recital of a maximum duration of 40 minutes, of one or several works of free choice.

    PRIZES

    The Jury may award the following prizes:

  • FIRST PRIZE "ZOLTÁN KOCSIS": 8.500 euro and diploma, distributed as follows:

    • 3128.50 euro

    • 2611.50 euro for the complete recording of a CD through of the

      MANS studio recording, with their respective 500 copies

    • Recital in Cyprus

    • Recital in New York

    • Recital in Vigo

    • Recital in Lugo

    • Consultation service through "Music talent Lab", valued in

      1600 euro.

    • 1000 euros to participate in Costa Rica piano Festival

    • 100 euro of scholarship to study at Forum Musikae

      International Summer Academy of Madrid *

    • Set of scores of Galician composers, granted by "Dos Acordes",

      valued in 60 euro

  • SECOND PRIZE "GALICIA": 5350 euro and diploma, distributed as follows:

    • 2057.55 euro

    • 783.45 euro for the recording of a CD through the MANS

      studio recording.

    • Consultation service through ̈Music Talent Lab ̈, valued in

      1600 euro.

    • 750 euro to participate in Costa Rica piano festival

  • PRIZE FOR PARTICIPANTS WHO ARE NOT PASSING TO SEMIFINALS: TO THOSE PARTICIPANTS THAT THE JUDGES CONSIDER THAT HIGHLIGHT SPECIALLY AND DIDN’T PASS TO THE SEMIFINAL:

    • 100 euro scholarship to study at the Forum Musikae International Summer Academy in Madrid *

    • Set of scores of Galician composers, awarded by ̈Dos acordes ̈, valued in 60 euro

      Some of the prizes could be shared and the jury is not obliged to grant all the prizes, being their decisions unappealable. During the Closing Ceremony the winners will collect their award personally, otherwise the prize could be revoked. They must also perform at least one work. The 100 scholarship prize, together with the CD recording prize, is not cumulative in case that some of the participants will get more than one prize.

      (*) The scholarships of 100 euros to study at the Forum Academy Musikae in Madrid will be destined to study with professor Pablo Galdo during the month of that academy during month of July, 2018.
